Weight Control FactsBack
It is the sum of what you eat and the amount of activity that you do that really counts.
A half-cup serve (80g) of cooked white rice typically provides about 5% of the daily energy needs for an average adult.
The same serve size of cooked brown rice typically provides about 6% of an average adult’s daily energy needs. This energy content isn’t regarded as unduly high or 'fattening'.
Nutrition experts recommend at least half the kilojoules/calories we consume should come from carbohydrates. Rice is an excellent source of carbohydrate to help power the body and keep the cogs churning.
Carbohydrates aren’t fattening! Weight gain happens when the amount of energy (kilojoules/calories) taken in through food exceeds the amount of energy burned up through daily physical activity and exercise.
Carbohydrate kilojoules are no more 'fattening' than protein calories or fat calories.
